This was a great article and you were spot on with your comments. SEO Real Estate is probably the most over used sector of the internet for social media

That's a great point, Nathalie. If you ever see studies of Google search results, it is around 25% that click on the paid ads versus 75% that go for the organic search results. I think that is proof enough of how saavy and aware people are of what is a paid point of view vs. what is real.

Don't forget word of mouth tends to have much more impact than advertising, which obviously has been paid for.

Besides, postings and reactions placed on social media sites can be brought back to the surface at any time, by means of Google search results for instance, even a long time after an incident has occurred and even when it has been solved immediately. So you never know for sure whether an issue really has been unraveled or not.

This is an excellent continuation of Tom's guest post, Marty (and I have to give Tom credit, the post was all his - I just gave him my real estate). :)

It's true that for every action, there's a chain reaction, and this can either be extroverted or inverted, depending on the reach. While it's true that the smaller business may have less impact in handling a crisis, it may also be true that this very restriction saves it. People tend to forget the smaller things a lot quicker than the bigger ones.

It's funny you mention social media and its outreach in this post - I've just written one that is a response to a Cease and Desist letter re. an earlier post of mine.

http://dannybrown.me/2009/03/13/melrose-jewelers-rolex-and-owen-wilson-the-sequel/

What's funny about this example is that the original had all blown over and no-one was talking about it. Now, following the actions of the party that sent me the Cease and Desist, it's all public news again.

Be interesting to see how this one pans out, with "traditional" versus "social".

Cheers for an excellent follow-up! :)
